Creating a New Community

An online community for do-it-yourself environmental monitoring enthusiasts may eventually help environmental scientists and planners around the globe better observe and quantify the effects of land use and climate change.

That’s the vision for EnviroDIY.org, developed by Stroud Water Research Center in affiliation with the Christina River Basin Critical Zone Observatory.

“Our first goal is to create a community of people who share ideas that accelerate the development of easy-to-use, open-source approaches to environmental monitoring. That will ultimately lead to an explosion of measurements.”

— Anthony Aufdenkampe

Having more data will help us pinpoint the places we need to protect, identify those who are degrading the environment, evaluate which restoration practices work and which ones don’t and develop more effective approaches to protecting our environment.
