Thank you very much for the answer. No, the rain gauge was deployed as it came out of the box. The sensor was leveled during installation, but the pole was not re-leveled since then and it was there for two or three years. I was asking Meter for help and asked them directly if there is some posibility to adjust it and they said “no” so I am bit…[Read more]

It is ECRN-50 by Meter Group. There is “spoon” stuck in lower position in the picture.

Hello, I have issues with particular rain gauge. Hopefuly someone has already encountered something like this.
The rain gauge is mechanical “tipping” one, but it does not have two containers for water / two stable states.
It has just one “spoon” which collects water and once it is full it should tip and empty itself and return to default state…[Read more]

Pavel started the topic SDI-12 sensor power supply – is 12 V needed? in the forum Environmental Sensors 1 years, 6 months ago
Usually SDI-12 sensors use 12 V power supply. In SDI-12 specification there is stated that logger should provide voltage in range 9.6 V to 16 V. I have checked sensors I commonly use (mostly Meter) and they all work with power supply 5 V or even lower. I would say using lower power supply volatage for sensors should also lead to more efficiency…[Read more]

Pavel replied to the topic SDI-12 sensors wake-up time after powering up in the forum Environmental Sensors 1 years, 7 months ago
Where did you get that value, Sara? Can you explain it little bit? Is that somewhere in SDI-12 specification? In spec, there is written that sensor have to wake up from low power standby mode within 100 ms after detecting break. But that is regarding data line and I think says nothing about 12V power supply line.

Hello,
does anyone know what is maximum time that some SDI-12 sensors need to initialize to be able to communicate with data logger after powering up?
In SDI-12 specification, there is plenty of information on timing, but I guess it assumes sensors have power supply already connected and I have’t found info on power supply timing (meaning if I…[Read more]

Thank you for feedback.
I didn’t think about publishing it on GitHub at first as I felt like there are just two small pieces of Python program and it is all already available in that post. But maybe it is good idea anyway for possible issues reporting and improvements…
No, I have never used Mayfly logger. When I found out about that project it…[Read more]

Hello,
I have just finished my first post on my first blog 🙂 and wanted to share it with Enviro DYI community. The post is about tool for debugging SDI-12 communication.

I am writing it partialy for myself so I don’t have such mess in my files, notes and ideas, but I hope some…[Read more]
