A Mayfly Data Logger should be able to communicate with a LI-710, but someone would have to write a specific SDI12 library file of commands for that sensor, using the example command info in the manual. It also looks like it’s a continuously-powered sensor, requiring 0.125mA at 12v, with up to 2A during initial startup. I assume you’ll be po…[Read more]

Sorry for the delay. I’m planning to use it in an H-flume that has a maximum depth of 0.45 meters. It looks like precision is listed as 0.25 mm but I’m okay with accuracy closer to 2 mm.
And thanks for the sensor range info. I’ll plan to install the eTape in a probe well attached to the flume that extends below the flume entrance elevation. I…[Read more]

I am thinking about buying a LI-710 Evapotranspiration Sensor https://licor.app.boxenterprise.net/s/3uehdcs2tkwhb120zm3l961pauvjhl9d
I was wondering if I could use a Mayfly as a data logger for it without needing to buy a SDI-12 adaptor
Thank you, Adam

Good to hear. and definitely very interested in use with a flume. What range of water depth measurement are you looking for and depth accuracy of measurement.
Typically, because ADCs are got good around 0.0V and rail – the Sensor range from 0.0 to full range, the Voltage range is from 10%Rail to 90%Rail (eg 0.3V to 3.0V for 3.3VDC rail) and t…[Read more]

Thanks for the response, Neil. I’m basing the idea that the sensor is calibrated on the following response from Milone when I asked about the difference between the standard voltage divider setup and the other more expensive (+$45) output modules:
“<span data-olk-copy-source=”MessageBody”>If you go with the standard voltage divider, each sensor…[Read more]

Hi Eric – I’ve purchased and looked at using the eTape.
I was just wondering what made you think they are “calibrated” – that is the “0.0” markings relates to a defined voltage. Usually this is shown for a calibrated sensor. Similarly for a Full Scale relates to a known Voltage.?
looking at the graphs, they describe “0-5VDC Linear Re…[Read more]

Hello Elliot, gosh too bad for the experience. Its a core issue of how to ensure there is enough power, and then also recover from low power events. However to be able to get some help its best to post the details of the two systems. Need to phrase the problem with enough detail that some one else might be able to comment. Battery size and so…[Read more]

Hi –
I am a newbie to the world of Arduino/MayFly and would like to create a system to regularly log the output from a Milone eTape sensor that will be installed on the side of a flume outdoors. This is the sensor: https://milonetech.com/shop/ols/products/xn-standard-etape-assembly-75a-a8ed96
I have contacted Milone and it sounds like the…[Read more]

What sensor(s) are you using with the board? Have you reprogrammed the sketch onto the Mayfly recently, or are you using a board that was programmed last year or earlier? Some people seems to be having issues with boards not sleeping/waking properly using the most recently SDI12 libraries, so if you’ve recently reprogrammed the board, then th…[Read more]

Update, its still only working when connected, but its only doing one reading every time I plug it in.

Hello Shannon,
I hope you are doing well. It has been awhile since my last ask. I recently reset my system and now I am having an issue where the mayfly is only working when it is connected to my computer. Is this an issue with my battery?

We installed a Mayfly out at the border of a forest/marsh last week and everything went fine. I tested our loggers in our University’s greenhouse and it seemed like our batteries/solar panels were working just well. However, in the field, one of our loggers pretty much ran out of juice within the span of like an hour. We ended up replacing it with…[Read more]

Campbell ClariVUE10 reporting intervals seems to be resolved when I went back to a library I downloaded back in Nov 2024 but kept the SRC-sensors folder from…[Read more]

No, LiFePO4 batteries should never be used with a Mayfly board because the onboard charging circuitry is only designed to work with 3.7v Lithium Ion packs. There’s a summary of important battery information and options here: https://www.envirodiy.org/battery-options-mayfly/
