Everyone has been out of stock of that particular battery for the past 6 months. As you said, you can use the Adafruit 6600mAh pack (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/adafruit-industries-llc/353/5054549), or you can use the single-cell 2200mAh cell (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/adafruit-industries-llc/1781/5054543). Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply! I am not getting any red lights on the modem at all. I have the Mayfly plugged into my pc right now and the only lights are the orange charge light, the USB/POWER lights, and D8 is lit up as green right now.
The modem seems to be correctly seated according to the instructions. We previously were able to get this…[Read more]

Does the red power light on the lower right of the modem turn on? If not, the modem isn’t getting power. Pin 18 should be the right pin number. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be powering up. Have you ever messed with the solder jumpers?
If the modem is powering up, you might have a baud rate problem. Try setting the modemBaud to 57600 even…[Read more]

Also double checked hologram.io to check to see if the sim is active, it is. I’ve also tried swapping the battery out, taking the sd card in/out, and have messed around with
const int8_t modemVccPin = 18;
and have swapped it from 18 to -1 as per the commented code, but it has not worked.

Hi,
Continuing to run into a problem connecting our Mayfly to LTE, getting an error: “Could not wake modem for clock sync”.
I’ve seen this posted a lot but I still can’t find any concrete reasons as to why I’m getting this error. I’m using the “DRWI_SIM7080LTE” sample sketch and using a HYDROS 21 to connect.
I’ve generated, formatted, and…[Read more]

Hi Paul! Thanks for suggesting a biennial subscription. I’ve added it as an option for each of the plan levels.
You have the ability to modify your subscription, so if you need to change to an annual plan after two years, you can do that from your Monitor My Watershed Shop account.

Nevermind! We’ll just buy the 6600 mAh battery

Hi,
We’re looking to buy new 3.7 V 4400 mAh batteries for our Mayfly 1.1 and it seems that both the Adafruit and the Digikey vendors on the parts list table are both sold out. Any recommendations on replacement batteries that we could look for or are we okay with buying any general 3.7 V 4400 mAh batteries we can find that have similar…[Read more]

I’m thinking ahead to 2025 and beyond. I have funds available until early next year (2025) that I can use to pay for EnviroDIY web hosting. My question is can I pay a year in advance? For example in December 2024 can I pay for both 2025 and 2026 (Medium annual plan) OR is it only possible to pay for 2025 at that time. Thanks. Paul

No luck. I disconnected the solar panel, but am still seeing artifactual troughs. It’s reminiscent of the much more extreme variations in reported stream depth for the Pine Creek station, which calmed with a new sensor. The latter might have been related to a frayed wire from the sensor, I’m not sure.

Oh interesting, Thanks for sharing, Sounds like it connected some of the time, showing that it was possible to connect. I’ve found there are four source of failure – setup to cell tower, TCP/IP setup, POST ack, MMW timeout,
I found this hardware data sheet – but it turns out there is a GM1 and GM2 – GM1 is the low power. I wonder which o…[Read more]

We ordered a couple of these modules and they arrived a few days ago. I did some testing the past couple days and had only occasional success at sending data to MMW with them. We’re thinking the code libraries probably need to be tweaked to work with these new modules, but there’s no usable electrical or software documentation for these p…[Read more]

Thanks Sara, that is good news. I will be ordering several of these to replace the modems at all of my sites. The previous version was not that reliable, so I am hoping they made some improvements to the design in this version. I will make sure to use “transparent mode” in my sketches.

According to the product change notification you attached, there shouldn’t need to be any software changes for “transparent” mode, so most of the examples for ModularSensors should still work.
The underlying cellular chipset on the board *has* changed from the ublox SARA R410M to the Telit ME310G1-WW on the global version or the Telit ME310G1-W1…[Read more]

You can also try disconnecting the solar panel for a few days since you’ve got a fully-charged battery on it. Then that’ll tell you if there’s any correlation between the sensor noise and charging activity. On a few rare occasions, a failing solar panel ended up generating noise on CTD sensor data.

Yeah – the sensor was cleaned recently. I had also switched the logger on and off. I’ve now replaced the battery. No luck – the trough and flickers, though slightly modified, still occur. I’ll try to substitute in another sensor, possibly another logger, in order to isolate the problem.
