About Me

I’m Pete Abrams, a Brooklyn-based environmental innovator and founder of Seashellter. I developed plasticrete—a groundbreaking process that fuses single-use thermoplastic film and bag waste with heated sand to create durable, waterproof building materials. Through passionate hobbyist work and hands-on craftsmanship, I’ve been exploring how to transform one of our planet’s most challenging waste streams into functional structures.

I’m currently developing Seashellter: modular circular/dome-shaped structures built from plasticrete pods that can serve multiple applications—from sustainable shelters to floating ocean monitoring platforms to artificial reef habitat. My work sits at the intersection of waste reduction, materials innovation, and marine conservation.

I’m joining EnviroDIY to learn from the community about integrating low-cost environmental sensors into plasticrete platforms for ocean data collection. I’m particularly interested in Arduino-based water quality monitoring systems that could be embedded in floating Seashellter pods to create distributed networks for coastal monitoring—making ocean observation more accessible and affordable while addressing plastic pollution.

I believe in DIY innovation, circular economy principles, and community-driven solutions to environmental challenges. Looking forward to learning from and collaborating with this community!
