Hi all,
It seems that there is now a global shortage on XBee-3 LTE’s. Does anyone know anywhere that has them in stock?
I contacted DIGI and they claimed a lead time of 52 weeks.

Hi guys,
Im just wondering if anyone has considered using the Helium network with the Mayfly? Essentially it’s a LoRaWAN network where the infrastructure is owned by the public. They are incentivising network expansion by rewarding hotspot owners with HNT, their own cryptocurrency.
Im interested because there is potential to establish a local H…[Read more]

I had a lightbulb moment today that seems to have fixed my problem. I switched the 3.3v jumper to 5v. Success!! I guess it was brown-out.

I have switched my pin for the HYDROS 21 CTD from D7 to D11, but I seem to be having the same issue. It’s worth noting that I don’t get -9999 values when plugged into my computer. Could it have something to do with power?

Hi Shannon,
Yes I am on D7 for the CTD. I am using the default pins for the mayfly modbus wing (https://github.com/EnviroDIY/Mayfly-Modbus-Wing/tree/master/Modbus-Mayfly_WingShield):
Communication is hardwired to Mayfly digital pins 5 & 6, which enable use of the AltSoftSerial library. Read more at our Notes on Arduino Streams and Software…

Hi all,
I am testing a Mayfly setup with a HYDROS 21 CTD and a Yosemitech 511-A turbidity sensor. The Turbidity sensor is working well, but the CTD seems to intermittently dropping in and out (see attached MMW plots).
Any thoughts on what might cause this? I have set the CTD address to channel 1 as per instructions. I did notice that the…[Read more]

Hi Matt,
This is an old thread but I have recently purchased ten Y511-A sensors from Yosemitech.
My contact is called Zoe “sunxian@yosemitech.com”.

Thanks Anthony! I’m feeling a lot more comfortable about Yosemitech sensors now that I have a test unit in my hands. I can’t wait to get them out in the field.

Hi @aufdenkampe,
That’s really good news. Yes I was reading through some historical issues on git-hub about problems with the Polou step-up module and inability to set brush intervals. My 511-A seems to be functioning well so I’m assuming the Polou step-up issue is also solved.
One quick question, In your view, is the 511-A worth the extra…[Read more]

Hi @shicks. Thank you. I was considering pogo pins. I assume you just solder them in and push the adapter board down to test? I guess I could also solder female headers into the wingshield holes and males into the adapter boards. This would allow me to test each adapter board on one rig, and I could just solder the male headers into new wing…[Read more]

Hi all,
I am going the the process of building 10 x modbus wings for Yosemitech sensors. Most people are probably aware of the lack of quality control on these adapters, so I would like to test them before I solder them to the wing. What is the best way to test one of these without soldering to the wing headers? I tried just sliding one over…[Read more]

James_NZ replied to the topic Question for Hydrologists – Soft bottom streams in the forum Miscellaneous 1 year ago
Hi Neil,
I’m pretty sure our methods align to that of USGS. However my concern is that the cross-sectional area will change with every large flow event due to the mobile bottom sediments, giving us a poor relationship between depth and flow. Our hydrology team has suggested that an accurate rating curve is very difficult to obtain in such…[Read more]

Just an update here. Katie from METER group thinks the GEN2 will be released within a matter of weeks. She is holding our payment and will send us a shipment of GEN2s when they are available.

James_NZ replied to the topic Question for Hydrologists – Soft bottom streams in the forum Miscellaneous 1 year ago
Thanks Neil. I have had a skim through the attached document but the flows we are dealing with are in the order of 2-3 m3/sec during baseflow. We also have another concern because there is sediment clearance in the lower reaches on an annual basis, which again will impact the rating curve.
I think I will have to look for fixed structures, i…[Read more]

Hi all,
Has anyone got any thoughts on how to calculate flow rating curves for streams with highly mobile bottoms? I ran a site check yesterday and it seems like the lower end of the catchment is largely sand or mobile pumice rock. I am looking to use a Mayfly with a Hydros-12 CTD to develop a rating curve for flow, which will eventually enable…[Read more]

Thanks @shicks, great to know. Would you recommend that I push back on them for Gen-2 sensors, even if they take a bit longer to get here? It seems silly to rush things through and end up with an inferior sensor.

Hi @dan-wachusett. I am about to order 10 x Hydros 21 units from METER Group. I assume they will be Gen 2 (cost $511 USD each).
Is someone working on the modular sensors library? Any idea how long it will be before the Gen 2 can be used?

Another question worth pondering is whether brushed sensors are desirable over un-brushed sensors in lotic environments? Perhaps the difference in performance is more apparent in lentic systems where fouling is more likely to occur?
Has anyone compared the performance of brushed vs un-brushed sensors?

Hi,
I am trying to decide between a Yosemitech 511-A turbidity sensor with brush, or a 510-B brushless sensor.
I have read that there have been some issues with setting the interval time for the 511 brush with a typical wingshield with 9v polou step up. I see that Anthony had some success with a wiring harness and a boost converter module. Can…[Read more]
